The Dark Lord is still seething, it is said, from Ed Miliband’s response when asked if he would give Lord Mandelson a job. “All of us believe in dignity in retirement,” he replied. The anger is obvious in today’s Mail on Sunday, in which he says he “will be loyal to Ed Miliband” but is quoted as being anything but. The news story is based on an extended interview in tomorrow’s Total Politics by Tory blogger, Ian Dale, in which Mandelson says the Labour leader had insulted him by saying he should be “packed off to an old folk’s home”. In the interview, says the Mail,
Lord Mandelson suggested Mr Miliband was devious and had secretly plotted against Tony Blair. And he contemptuously dismissed him, saying he had ‘never seriously thought of him’ as a leader.
Well, in the words of another Mandy … he would say that wouldn’t he?
