Palestine Government may seek sacking of Tony Blair

The Palestinian Government will soon consider whether it should ask the International Quartet Committee for peace in the Middle East to fire its envoy Tony Blair, the former prime minister of Britain, a well-informed Palestinian source said on Sunday.

A senior well-informed Palestinian source, speaking to Xinhua on condition of anonymity, said that several Palestinian leaders are studying the step in the light of Blair’s bias towards Israel.

The Palestinian leadership was outraged when Blair insisted on resuming the direct peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians with no condition on the eve of the submittal of the Palestinian request to the United Nations for a full membership.

The sources said the Palestinian Government may ask the Quartet to sack Blair and nominate a new envoy, adding that the PNA also plans other steps, such as boycotting Blair and considering him unwelcome personality.

However, a senior official in the Palestinian presidency said, on condition of anonymity, that there is a Palestinian resentment of Blair’s positions, “but there is no such a Palestinian attitude to ask the quartet for sacking Blair.”

The Palestinian leadership doesn’t have any decision to request from the quartet to replace Blair with another envoy, but a decision will be made after deliberations in this respect soon,” said the official.

Abbas Zaki, a central committee member in Abbas’ Fatah Party told Xinhua that

we believe that Blair is not anymore sincere and faithful in his post, therefore we don’t feel comfortable.”
