This video reveals the truth behind the ‘dirty’ tactics being used to undermine the pensions of the Unilever workforce. Unilever workers in GMB, Unite and Usdaw are today on the third of ten days rolling strike action at Purfleet in Essex, Trafford Park in Manchester, Port Sunlight on Merseyside and Seacroft in Leeds in defence of their pension scheme. Amongst the Uniever products afected are Fabric, Comfort, Persil, Hellmann’s mayonnaise, Flora, and PG Tips.
According to Union News:
The company’s changes will not affect management pensions but will cut workers’ savings by between 20 and 40 percent; one worker estimates that she will be worse off by £7,000 a year when she retires if Unilever pushes ahead with plans to ditch their final salary pension scheme.
Unite national officer Jennie Formby said:
The solid support for this strike is a clear message to Unilever that our members are not prepared to be treated like dirt. Unilever’s wall of silence is making them angrier by the day and if anything more determined to continue their fight back – not just with further strike but by escalating our campaign of demonstrations.”
Makes me wonder ..How are fat expat packages around the world justfied when the pension fund is in deficit and locals in UK and Europe are suffering.
expat package include housing, transport , free education for children, return airfares to home country,paid home leave,sundry allowances.
One of the control measures in recession should be to stop or atleast curtail expat packages. Everyone should be on local contract.
How are numerous roles and positions created at senior management while junior staff is made redundant.
Everyone ought to be treated equally and with respect .
