Never mind that Jeremy Hunt. The real news of the day is about that fine young Blairite who cares about his values, Tristan Pithers. This morning we reported on his agonies: “I no longer feel that the Labour Party represents me, represents the values I hold or the ideas I believe in,” was his cry. Should he stay or should he go, we asked, and some of our less caring readers hardened their hearts against him.
Now we learn that he has indeed gone, to join the Liberal Democrats. In a message to Left Futures readers, he nevertheless has the generosity to say:
I’m pleased that there are those on the Labour left who still understand politics is about values not insults. I’m pleased to tell you that I have indeed gone. I became a Lib Dem member this morning.
I wish you all the best of luck in building your party up as you want it. Keep fighting the good fight for what you believe because that, after all, is why we do this.”
Naturally, we’re devestated that he’s really gone.
