Unite executive elections kick off

UL leafletsNominations opened this month for the elections to the executive of Britain’s biggest union, and it is an important test for the United Left which backed Len McCluskey for General Secretary and currently has a large majority on the executive. Branches of Unite have until Friday 14 February (now extended) to make nominations for the 62 places on the executive (which must be received at head office by 18 February).

The executive has been slightly reduced in size and there are now 24 territorial seats for the Union’s ten regions (including 10 reserved for women and 2 for BAME candidates), 34 industrial seats for 20 sectors (including 5 reserved for women and 2 for BAME candidates), and four equalities seats. Your branch can make nominations for relevant territorial and sector seats as well as all national equalities seats. Details of United left candidates are available here, with election statements/leaflets which can be downloaded.

Voting papers will be issued from 26 March and must be returned by 23 April. We will publish further information about candidates nominated when they are available.
