Springsteen pays tribute to Victor Jara

In what is apparently pretty good Spanish, here’s Bruce Springsteen paying tribute to Victor Jara, the great Chilean guitarist murdered by the Pinochet regime shortly after the coup of 1973, the 30th anniversary of which was marked the other on 11th September.

According to Agence France Presse, Springsteen said: “If you are a politically inclined musician, Victor Jara continues to be a great expression of that,” before going on to talk about meeting numerous Chileans with relatives missing from the disappearances under Pinochet.

And here’s Jara in performance:

And finally, Christy Moore performing the protest song adapted from Adrian Mitchell’s poem ‘Victor Jara of Chile’. His hands were gentle, and his hands were strong.
