OK sisters and brothers. Listen up all you old Labour hacks. There’s a new generation out there with an experience you don’t share. This is the future and it might just work. This isn’t here for ideological critique. Just read it and send the link to your (grand)children.

Legal aid cuts are crude, insensitive and a false economy
Feb 4th, 2011 by Michael Meacher.Of all the crudity and insensitivity of the Tory spending cuts, the proposed cuts to legal aid are among the most unnecessary, harsh and foolish. Unnecessary because the planned savings of £350m out of a £2bn legal aid budget are just 0.3% of the Tories’ intended elimination of the structural deficit.
‘Cuts are not the cure’ says TUC in run-up to huge demo
Feb 2nd, 2011 by Jon Lansman. The TUC is distributing thousands of pamphlets with the message that Cuts are not the cure in the run-up to the March for the Alternative – the London demonstration on Saturday 26 March – which is set to be the biggest TUC event for decades. Already hundreds of coaches have been booked and trains chartered from […]
Labour must renounce its ugly Blairite legacy if it wants to win
Feb 2nd, 2011 by Michael Meacher.Monday was a day of shame, the day they denationalised the NHS. Yet at the second reading of the Bill in the House of Commons the main line of defence of the increasingly isolated Andrew Lansley, who is clearly out of his depth, was that the Tories are only carrying on where Blair left off and […]
The anti-cuts movement needs direction
Feb 1st, 2011 by Owen Jones. It is easy to take for granted that we have a movement against this Government at all. We’re only 9 months into Cameron’s Britain, and already thousands of people are willing to march again and again in freezing temperatures. On Saturday’s anti-cuts demo in London, I felt the same pride I have felt at each […]
Demanding councillors not set budgets will weaken the anti-cuts movement
Jan 28th, 2011 by Jon Lansman.Refusing to set a cuts budget is a tactic that can work. It did, for Liverpool, in 1984, a fact most commentators choose to ignore because of Militant’s influence on the council at that time but which was noted by a Times leader which began “today in Liverpool municipal militancy is vindicated“. The following year, […]
Ed Balls is the right choice for Shadow Chancellor
Jan 21st, 2011 by Michael Meacher. It seems that Alan Johnson has resigned for genuine personal reasons, and we must wish him well in handling whatever those are. His successor, Ed Balls, is the right person for the job on several grounds. He has great experience and a long track record in finance and, unlike his predecessor, will not need to bone […]
Snow Fun For New York Mayor Bloomberg
Jan 10th, 2011 by Mark Seddon. The flat earthers who refuse to believe that there is global warming or that sea levels are rising have had a good couple of months in the Northern hemisphere. They will be cheered to find that increasing numbers of people when polled seem to share their views. This is all largely based on the early […]
RMT accuse London Underground of lying about station staff
Jan 6th, 2011 by Jon Lansman.Tube union RMT today demanded an immediate halt to the London Underground (LU) cuts programme as new documents released the union show that 30.5% of stations have been scheduled to be unstaffed during operational hours – a direct contradiction of the speech given by Mayor Boris Johnson at the Tory Party conference in October last […]
Right-wing press veto tax dodging campaign
Jan 4th, 2011 by Jon Lansman. Two right-wing newspapers, the Daily Mail and The Daily Telegraph, have today refused to carry ads opposing tax dodging (shown left) placed by campaign 38 Degrees, on the pretext that they could be viewed as libellous. The ads have been nevertheless accepted by the Guardian and Independent, and now 38 Degrees plan to run them on bus shelters and […]
